Moving Out

Published on 28/03/2012 by in Home

There comes a time in almost everybody’s life that they have to move out of home. My time has come, but it isn’t easy as it sounds.

There are so many things you need to consider when moving out, such as:

  • Location. (Where do you want to move to? Is it close to family? Is it close to the places you need to be close to?)
  • Price. (Can I afford it?)
  • Travel. (Is there public transport? Do I need to travel far to visit the places I need to visit?)
  • Jobs. (Can I get a job at this location?)

These are just some of the key factors one needs to take into consideration. I’m finding out the hard way how complicated it really is.  I know that when I move out, I won’t have family close by, just friends. I’ll virtually be on my own. And sure, I’m excited about moving out, but I;m also worried for the unforeseeable future.
First of all, I need to find a job. Then I should worry about finding a house…

Have you got a moving out story you wish to share? If so, write it in a comment and you could win a copy of

STAR WARS® THE FORCE UNLEASHED II

(On Steam for the PC)

Fast Food Free February

Published on 01/02/2012 by in Home

Rightio! So, This month is the (un)Official Fast Food Free February!

And I’m going to partake in it. :)

So, the rules are simple:

1. No Fast food. (This includes McDonalds, KFC, Subway Etc.)

2. No deep fried food.

And that’s it. If we all follow these rules, we will all be better healthier people!

So, Who’s in it with me?

Why is fast food so popular?

It is readily available – We are simply overrun with fast food and junk food options. Coming home from work when you are tired and don’t feel like cooking. You pass a McDonalds and pull into the drive through because it is there. It is easy. You know what you want already before you even look at the menu.

Fast food is also one of the only late night dining options available. At 2am, a fast food drive-thru is usually the place open.

Price – 2 for $2 hamburgers and dollar menus can suck you in when you’ve got three bucks burning a hole in your pocket.

Taste – Fast food tastes good. With all the salt and fat in fast food, it should. Obviously opinions will vary about how good fast food tastes.

How to quit eating fast food

Educate yourself – Fast food is terrible for you. It is industrially produced using steroids and genetic alteration to make animals grow unnaturally fast and fatter. They nearly every part of the animal.

Eating fast food is not really that cheap. If you want to save money, learn to cook for yourself. Learn to cook. Save money. The easiest way to do this? Cook in bulk. Make enough dinner for leftovers for lunch the next day.

Decide – Make the decision to stop eating fast food and make it public. Tell your friends and family that you aren’t eating fast food anymore. This way you will be held accountable and there will be peer pressure to achieve your goal.

Act – Make it your habit to seek out real food, at the expense of spending time and money on fast food. You want healthful choices to become second nature

Who uses Desura?

Published on 07/01/2012 by in Home

So, I have quite a few Desura codes, but I don’t and propably won’t ever use them. So, I’m going to eventually give them away!

But, I just wanted to gather knowledge on roughly how many people out there use this service? It probably won’t be enough people to make giving them away a competition, so I might just casually drop a few codes here and there every now and then.

But let me know in a comment below, if you use Desura or not. It would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Jamie.

Humble Bundles

Published on 14/12/2011 by in Home

Humble bundles, love them or hate them, they exist. :D
I personally love them, they’re great for supporting developers, charities and getting titles known to the world.

Incase you’ve been living under a rock, you have no doubt heard of The Humble Bundle.

This fantastic thing aims to support developers, and get them known to the world, while still making money and donating to charity!

The unique thing about this, is that the user gets to decide how much they would like to pay, from $0.01 to whatever you’d like! Of course, there is an incentive to pay more than the average, as you’ll get two extra games.

I suggest that you head on over and check it out. Here is this bundles games, and the two charities being donated too:

These games come DRM free, and include keys for steam!

Other bundles out there include the IndieRoyal Bundle

Who is currently offering:

So, have a look, support developers and enjoy your games!

Kingdoms of Amalur Question answered on Destructoid

Published on 10/12/2011 by in Home

Today I watched the Dectructoid live show, and asked a question to the staff about the up and coming new game Kingdoms of Amalur.
The Destructoid show, which can be found here: The Destructoid Show is a gaming news, and reviews show with amazing personalities like Max Scoville, and the intelligent and amazingly pretty Tara Long.

Anyway, My Question “Is Kingdoms of Amalur’s open world like Fable (How it’s open, but linear at the same time) or like Skyrim (Which is open and expansive). The question is answered beautifully and can be found in the below video at 18:52

Kingdoms of Amalur is a new up and coming RPG game, that I’m excited to buy. Below is the trailer.

Video game currency and the money in your pocket.

Published on 06/12/2011 by in Home

Walking to work today, I was thinking about how hard it was for me to save money.
I had come to a conclusion, is that I had become desensitized to money, if that is even possible. And I partly blame video games.

Now, I’m not one of those people that say “playing violent video games makes people violent.” but I think what I’m about to say might be very relevnt in the younger generation.

Think about it, in a video game, you may have an in game currency, rupees, gold, Gil, Munny or Pokédollars the list goes on. Everytime we play these video games, we lose money, spend it easily and even become rich in minutes. But has our habits in video games become habits in our everday lives? I often feel as though the numbers in my bank account are like credits, I don’t feel as thought they’re real and therefore don’t feel like I lose something when I spend it.

Digitized money and the internet has made buying things just a few clicks away, just like in video games. Personally it has made it harder for me to save, knowing how easy it is, even when I try hard to save.

Next time you go to buy this fancy new thing, just think first, do you need it? Can the money be used for something else? Can I pay my rent?

Anyway,

It’s Christmas soon. Yay!
